A 21-point surge by Ruston starting in the second quarter proved to be too much for visiting East St. John to overcome in a 35-25 loss Friday night that eliminated the Wildcats from the Class 5A playoff in the opening round. When quarterback Kolby Bourgeois connected on a 9-yard touchdown pass to Jacoby Williams to put Lutcher back on top of Slidell with what appeared to be 57 seconds remaining on the clock, the Bulldogs looked like they had found a way to extend what had been a very trying season. Whenever Riverside Academy needed it most, Garland Robertson Jr. came up with something special.
