Hahnville wins epic battle over rival Destrehan in overtime

If there ever was a question why the Hahnville-Destrehan rivalry is considered to be one of the greatest in the country, that question was answered Friday night. The cross-river St. Charles Parish rivals met Friday night for the 68th time for parish bragging rights, but this time a district championship and a playoff spot were at stake. And it showed. For the second week in a row, Destrehan had its chances. But for the second week in a row, the Wildcats lost a heart-breaker. Trailing 21-19 with 4:03 remaining in the game, Bonnabel sophomore kicker Daniel Valasquez fought nerves, butterflies and a desperate Destrehan defense to hit a just-long enough 39-yard field goal that put the Bruins ahead 22-21. After Destrehan’s Denzel Arceneaux returned a kickoff 68 yards for a touchdown to put his Wildcats ahead of East St. John’s 35-21 with 6:44 left to play, East St. John fans figured they would need a miracle to pull this one out. Destrehan Wildcats stay unbeaten in district play in ‘ugly game’

Destrehan had to overcome four turnovers and a persistent effort by John Ehret to take a 42-24 victory Friday night at Destrehan. Wildcats quarterback Donovan Isom threw three interceptions but passed for 213 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for another score. Receiver Michael Smith was on the receiving end of two of those touchdown passes and finished with eight catches for 136 yards. Destrehan tames Hurricanes in Wildcats’ 41-21 win over Higgins

It was not just a normal night at the office for Destrehan coach Stephen Robicheaux. There were homecoming festivities. A television crew was broadcasting the game live and interviewed Robicheaux pre-game, halftime, and post-game.
