Dabney’s last-second shot sends Lady Cats to 5A Semifinals

They started out in a 15-6 hole, and they finished cutting down the nets at R.K. Smith Middle School. Destrehan has placed a pair of wrestlers into the LHSAA State Tournament at the Ponchartrain Center in Kenner. The highest seed in the River Parishes heading into the tourney Rae Juan Marbley the No. 2 seed at 220 lbs advanced with a bye and back-to-back pins. Last season Marbley finished third. Destrehan’s Nette 1st female wrestler to win at states

Destrehan's Abbey Nette has made history at the Louisiana State Wrestling Tournament becoming the first female to register a win in Division I when she pinned Spencer Cormier of Lafayette in a consolation match in the 138 pound weight class. While much of the focus on National Signing Day is on the big-time programs, smaller out-of-state schools continue to give River Parish players a chance to further their education while getting a chance to continue to play college football. A total of 19 players from the River Parishes on Wednesday signed to play at programs from out of state at the Football Championship Subdivision or below. River Parishes again supply quality, quantity to colleges

The River Parishes provided its usual level of quality to colleges on National Signing Day but the area also boasted its customary quantity as well. Five players from River Parish teams signed Wednesday with major college programs. Two came from Destrehan as quarterback Donovan Isom signed with Utah and linebacker Rae Juan Marbley with Tulane.
