In front of a standing room only crowd at the Sports Pub and Grill in Destrehan, and enough internet traffic to temporarily crash RPF.com, Kirk Merritt announced he will be playing college football at Oregon. The national champion of the Nike SPARQ competition last summer, said the decision was close between Oregon and Texas A&M. Merritt helped lead Destrehan to the 5A championship game this past season. The vote by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association on Friday, as far as football was concerned, was much ado about nothing.
