THIBODAUX – With Nicholls’ Football Championship Subdivision playoff opener against visiting San Diego starting off like it might be a trade-for-trade marathon, the River Parish duo of Sully Laiche and Evan Veron, like usual, came up big for the Colonels. After Nicholls had scored to take a 14-0 lead with 7:17 remaining in the opening quarter, the Toreros were on the move again. On first-and-10 from the Nicholls 35, Laiche, a former star defensive lineman from... Keep Reading

THIBODAUX - A lot was on the line in Nicholls’ game last Saturday against Houston Baptist at Guidry Stadium. A 38-31 triumph the previous week at Incarnate Word gave the Colonels six wins and guaranteed Nicholls its first winning season since a 6-5 finish in 2007. A victory over Houston Baptist would allow NSU to finish unbeaten at home for only the third time in school history while solidifying its ranking in the Top 25 while... Keep Reading

THIBODAUX - Once again, players from River Parish high schools played a prominent role in a Nicholls victory. As the Colonels’ offense struggled early in their season opener against McNeese State on Thursday night at a nearly-packed house at Guidry Stadium, a Nicholls defense – featuring a strong contingent of River Parish players – kept NSU in the game, ultimately allowing for a dramatic last-second victory. The Colonels’ defense continually had their backs... Keep Reading
