A field-goal attempt that bounced off the left upright with 29 seconds left in the game kept Hahnville from a third-consecutive overtime game and handed HHS a 19-16 home loss Friday night to Thibodaux in the District 7-5A opener for both teams. A first test of dealing with adversity, a first win, a first quarter tie with a team ranked first in the nation just two years ago, the first touchdown catch by a 330-pound nose tackle, and the first back-to-back triple overtime games in recent memory. In the aftermath of Hahnville’s triple-overtime loss to two-time defending Class 5A champion Rummel last week; first-year Tigers coach Nick Saltaformaggio said it would be a shame if his team didn’t learn from the experience.
