Unlike most River Parish football teams, the Lutcher Bulldogs opted to end spring practice with an intra-squad scrimmage Thursday rather than face an opponent. “What it did is it gave us time to teach,” Lutcher coach Dwain Jenkins said of no spring game. “What we were able to do on Monday and Tuesday was really slow down and not have to prepare for somebody. We were able to go in and make... Keep Reading

A large group of incoming freshmen and sophomore varsity hopefuls has caused Lutcher to undertake an unusual start to spring football practice. Slightly less than 50 young Bulldog pups are taking part in an underclassmen-only two-day practice session before the upperclassmen join the fray on Monday. “This is kind of something we looked at last year,” Lutcher coach Dwain Jenkins said. “We saw what we had coming up from our middle school and... Injuries happen when kids get tired. We just... Keep Reading

It may appear that when you are a two-time defending state champion, you can start practice as late as you want to. That may have seemed like the case for Lutcher’s football team but there was more to it than just a late debut for the 2017 Bulldogs. “We were just trying to make sure we just had as many guys here as possible,” said Dwain Jenkins, who is conducting his second... The guys who were supposed to shine did so Wednesday in Lutcher’s spring game against visiting Loranger. Lutcher quarterback Jontre Kirklin ran for two touchdowns and tossed scoring tosses to receivers Al’dontre Davis and Tariq Belvin. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs defense shut down the Wolves after allowing a touchdown on the opening series of the scrimmage. “On the first drive, they kind of caught us a little bit off guard but...
