The winning score came on a 23-yard pass from Deuce Wallace to Von Julien with only nine seconds remaining in the game. &ldquo... Keep Reading

The Rams scored early and often en route to a 56-21 victory over St John-Plaquemine clinching at least a share of the District 9-1A championship. “It feels good,” said West St. John coach Robert Valdez. “I’m very excited about the way the kids... Lutcher coach Tim Detillier said he has been waiting for a night like Friday. And he wasn’t talking about the cooler weather. Detillier said his undefeated and No. 3 ranked Bulldogs played perhaps their most complete game of the season Friday in taking a 35-6 non-district victory over Assumption. The Bulldogs (8-0) dominated Assumption (5-4) in every phase of the game, Detillier said. The offense amassed 354 yards, mostly behind the running and passing of... Keep Reading

By Evan Pelas After starting the season winless through their first four games, many thought that the Hahnville Tigers season was over. But behind leading running back Sergio Medina and the Tigers’ stingy defense, Hahnville has won four games in a row, including Friday’s 49-6 rout of John Ehret, earning them a share of the District 8-5A title and securing their place in the playoffs.  “Well, number one, I... St. Charles didn’t quite look like the team that had rolled off five straight wins in the first half of its home game Friday against St. James but the Comets left do doubt as to the outcome on their opening drive of the second half. Although looking a bit out of sync, the Comets still managed to build a 27-0 halftime lead off of a short field and St. James miscues but St.... Keep Reading

For the second week in a row, Destrehan had its chances. But for the second week in a row, the Wildcats lost a heart-breaker. Trailing 21-19 with 4:03 remaining in the game, Bonnabel sophomore kicker Daniel Valasquez fought nerves, butterflies and a desperate Destrehan defense to hit a just-long enough 39-yard field goal that put the Bruins ahead 22-21. Then as the Bonnabel defense stiffened, Destrehan faltered. After Velasquez’ field goal and the ensuing kickoff... Keep Reading

For the second straight year East St. John coach Phillip Banko left Hoss Memstas Stadium drenched although not a drop of rain fell from the sky. With his team’s playoff hopes alive following a 14-6 win over Higgins, Wildcat players poured a gatorade bucket of ice water over their coach, much like they did a year ago following a district win over Ehret. “I’m cold, but I’m happy,... On a night in which Riverside put up close to 500 yards of total offense, 43 points, and some timely defensive plays, the Rebels two-game winning streak still came to an abrupt halt. But following a 46-43 loss to Carver Saturday night at Pan American Stadium, it was hard to find fault in a young resilient team who erased a 12-0 early deficit and overcame an injury to their feature running back. “We put ourselves in... West St. John’s 41-22 home win Friday night over White Castle didn’t absolutely clinch the District 9-1A title, but the Rams are about as close as they can get with two weeks remaining in the season. At 3-0 in district play with two games remaining and games with struggling St. John of Plaquemine and East Iberville left on the schedule, and its closest competitor now 2-1 after being vanquished Friday,...
