St. Charles Catholic coach  Frank Monica said he tried to convince his players that Friday night's contest against cross-town rival Riverside was "just" a jamboree. A couple of folks in Destrehan have been calling the new wide receiver, “The Kid from Newman” – mainly because they couldn’t remember his name, After Thursday night’s Ed Reed River Parishes Jamboree, that shouldn’t be a problem. At this time of year, there is always one refrain you will hear coming out of the River Parishes. “The scrimmage game is the dress rehearsal for your offense and defense and the jamboree is a dress rehearsal for your special teams,” said Hahnville coach Lou Valdin, uttering his yearly phrase. For Valdin’s Tigers and the other River Parish high school football teams, the scrimmages are out of the way and... Keep Reading

There has been a lot of talk heading into this season about Destrehan quarterback Donovan Isom. The 6-foot-4, 240 pound senior, who has committed to Utah, showed Friday night at Salmen that he certainly is worthy of all the attention he is getting. But the rest of the Wildcats showed they are by no means a one-man show. Isom passed for roughly 290 yards and two touchdowns in a scrimmage at Salmen, showing his poise in the... Keep Reading
