Merritt chooses Oregon on RPF.com Announcement Show

In front of a standing room only crowd at the Sports Pub and Grill in Destrehan, and enough internet traffic to temporarily crash RPF.com, Kirk Merritt announced he will be playing college football at Oregon. The national champion of the Nike SPARQ competition last summer, said the decision was close between Oregon and Texas A&M. Merritt helped lead Destrehan to the 5A championship game this past season. The vote by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association on Friday, as far as football was concerned, was much ado about nothing. The LHSAA tabled a proposal to alter the football postseason playoff brackets between select and non-select schools, meaning it’s the status quo for at least another year. St. Charles Catholic got off to a strong start in 2014, winning four of its five pre-district games. A new era in Hahnville football couldn’t have gotten off to a much better start. The Tigers scored on their first four possessions and rushed for more than 300 yards while most of their starters were out of the game by the fourth quarter on Hahnville’s way to a 35-14 season-opening win over Salmen. The St. John the Baptist Public School District has hired Alden Foster as East St. John head football coach and athletic director. An email was sent out to teachers and school board members announcing the decision.
