Off to a 4-0 start, a team doesn’t need much motivation than maintaining and undefeated record. Still, St. Charles Catholic just might find a little extra motivation when the Comets play at East Ascension on Friday night. A year ago, an inability to stop the Spartans on third down led to a 42-35 defeat to East Ascension – the first loss of the 2014 season for the Comets. “They are a better team... Keep Reading

The River Parish tour for Woodlawn continues. After opening the season at Hahnville and Destrehan, the Panthers play yet another River Parish squad. This time, Woodlawn gets to play a River Parish foe at home when the West St. John Rams visit Baton Rouge on Friday night. West St. John goes into its final pre-district game of the season 2-2 on the year and riding a two-game losing streak. After falling 24-14 to Hahnville and 4... Keep Reading

It’s been awhile since the St. James Wildcats have gotten off to a 3-1 start to the season. There may be a lot to cheer about but all is not perfect in Wildcat country, even with SJH on a three-game winning streak and coming off a 32-6 victory over Clark to open District 9-3A play. “In a lot of ways the game was very frustrating because we allowed ourselves not to... When you are 0-4, the negatives may be easy to spot. The positives, on the other hand, are a bit harder to find. In East St. John’s most recent loss – a 34-21 defeat at H.L. Bourgeois last Friday in the District 7-5A opener, the Wildcats never punted the football. Of course, not punting the football could come from turning the ball over, something the Wildcats have done a lot of... Keep Reading

Even with all of Lutcher’s offense, it was the... Keep Reading

West St. John dropped its second game in a row, falling 35-22 Friday night at Kentwood. The Rams (2-2) led 6-0 but would not score again until the fourth quarter. "We made plays and moved the ball around pretty well initially but it was poor execution in the red zone," West St. John coach Brandon Walters said. Kentwood (3-1) rallied for three scores in the first half to lead 21-6 at halftime. West St. John... Keep Reading

The return of Dontrell Allen could not change the fortunes for the struggling East St. John Wildcats in their District 7-5A opener Friday night in Houma. Allen, a Mississippi State commitment, saw his first action of the year by finally being declared eligible to play for East St. John, and even scored the game’s first touchdown. It proved to be far from enough as the Wildcats lost to H.L. Bourgeois 34-21... Keep Reading

The results were to St. James coach Dwain Jenkins’ liking but not the effort. St. James opened District 9-3A play with a 32-6 victory over J.S. Clark in the Wildcats’ Homecoming game but the team was far from sharp in its execution as far as Jenkins was concerned. “You are happy to start district with the win but I’m pretty disappointed on our focus and intensity – the... Just when it looked like Riverside Academy might have given the game away, the Rebels snatched it back. Leading 17-14, the Rebels were on the march for a potential knockout blow when Plaquemine defensive lineman Jermaine Spriggs pulled down a pass from Riverside quarterback Herb McGee and rambled down to the RA 5-yard line on the final play of the third quarter. Two plays advanced the ball to the 2-yard line before an offside call... Keep Reading

It wasn’t quite the formula St. Charles Catholic has used get off to a 3-0 start but the results were same. Through three games, the Comets jumped out to big, early leads and the defense didn’t allow a touchdown for the initial 11 quarters of the season. Against Central of Baton Rouge on Friday night in Laplace, the Comets faced two unfamiliar scenarios, especially early in the game. St. Charles fell behind... Keep Reading
