Destrehan hasn’t lost a football game on the field during the last three regular seasons. The Wildcats put that on the line when they host Slidell in the 2016 season opener Friday. Destrehan is coming off a loss at Lutcher in last week’s jamboree on a late rally by the Bulldogs. Boasting an explosive offense but with a defense that is replacing nine starters from a year ago, Wildcats coach Stephen Robicheaux... Keep Reading

West St. John won’t get to face Lowell Narcisse after all. After not facing the highly-touted St. James quarterback in last year’s Railroad Classic because of a knee injury that cost Narcisse the entire 2015 regular season, the senior signal caller seemed poised for a big senior year. That all changed when Narcisse tore the anterior cruiate ligament of his previously non-injured knee in St. James’ jamboree last week against Donaldsonville... Keep Reading

By: William Weathers First-year Lutcher football coach Dwain Jenkins was already aware of the special qualities his team possessed. That the Bulldogs went out and rallied from a two-touchdown, halftime deficit in last week’s jamboree only reaffirmed Jenkins’ convictions. “There’s going to be nothing over the next 15 weeks of this season that will tell me something about this team that I don’t already know,” Jenkins said. ... A scenario similar to last season’s opener would work just fine for the St. Charles Catholic Comets. In St. Charles’ game a year ago at Thibodaux the Comets’ average starting field position was the SCC 48-yard line. St. Charles had as balanced an offensive attack as a team can have – 121 yards rushing and 121 passing. It all added up to a 31-0 victory for the Comets. Even the elements played in... Keep Reading

When Riverside Academy hosts John Ehret in the 2016 season opener, the Rebels face a Patriots team that handed the RA its only loss of the season. Despite the fashion in which Riverside lost – falling behind early only to gain the lead and then get nipped 29-28 – there is no ‘revenge’ factor in the Rebels’ mindset. “The last thing we do is look back at last year,” Riverside coach... There was a bit of the good and the bad for East St. John in its jamboree last week against St. Augustine. The Wildcats failed to score and mistakes led to the Purple Knights’ two scores. That was the bad part. The good part was the play of the East St. John defense. The two scores allowed by ESJ came on a fumble return after a blindside sack of quarterback Marquis Darensbourg and a... Keep Reading

Dwain Jenkins knew he would be dealing with a lot of “firsts” this season. There would be his first practice as Lutcher’s new coach, the first spring game and scrimmage. The first game that really counts with Jenkins as the Bulldogs’ head coach comes Friday night when Lutcher hosts Dutchtown. Yet, the Bulldogs already may have experienced the feel of a first game following last week’s come-from-behind victory... Keep Reading

Of all the season-openings game across the state, the one that doesn’t need any additional hype is the West St. John at St. James rivalry set for Friday in Vacherie. The main subplot was expected to be Robert Valdez, the former West St. John coach, making his Wildcat coaching debut against his former Rams team. That narrative has been altered in light of the injury last Thursday to St. James quarterback Lowell Narcisse... Keep Reading

An attempt to run out the clock didn’t go as Destrehan expected in the Ed Reed-Jarvis Landry Jamboree on Friday night at Lutcher. Clinging to a dwindling lead, Destrehan was trying to run out the clock when the Wildcats fumbled near midfield. Lutcher drove inside the Destrehan 15 when Bulldogs quarterback Jontre Kirklin scored on a keeper to rally to within one point at 24-23. Kirklin scored on a two-point conversion to pull out... St. James senior quarterback Lowell Narcisse suffered yet another anterior cruciate ligament tear to his knee and will be lost for the second-straight season. Narcisse, one of the most highly-touted prep quarterbacks in the nation and a LSU commitment, torn the ACL in his left knee in the Wildcats’ 28-12 jamboree victory Thursday in Donaldsonville. The ACL tear is to the opposite knee that cost the quarterback all of the regular season of his... Keep Reading
