If you are of the belief that you will have to face Acadiana sooner or later in the Class 5A playoffs, you just as soon start preparing for the Rams as early as possible. That’s been the philosophy from the start for Nick Saltaformaggio as his Hahnville squad travels to Acadiana to take on the Rams and their vaunted split-veer option offense in the Class 5A semifinals on Friday night. “We&rsquo... THIBODAUX - A 38-31 home loss to South Dakota in the opening round of the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs Saturday may have brought Nicholls’ season to an end but it was a season of first for the Colonels in many ways. “You never prepare for it to end. You don’t want to think you will go in the locker room and look those 16 seniors in the eye for the last time.... Keep Reading

Riverside Academy managed to score 17 points in the first half against a Notre Dame team that had allowed more than a single touchdown in only one game all year, but in the end, the Rebels’ defense was unable to get off the field against the Pioneers’ stiff defense and powerful rushing attack. It all added up to a 41-31 loss for the Rebels that eliminated the defending Division III champions from the playoffs... Keep Reading

When St. Charles took advantage of an early third quarter special teams mistake by U-High and turned it into points on a Lloyd Nash 1-yard touchdown plunge there was hope that the Comets could do it again. "It" was to pull off an upset against a bigger, faster, higher-ranked team like they had done last season at Notre Dame in the Division III Semifinals, or earlier this season against 5A Destrehan. But not on this... Keep Reading

Anthony “Pooka” Williams lost the regular season rushing title to Covington’s Devin Brumfield. He may just have to settle for being a 1,000-yard rusher – in the postseason. Williams rushed for more than 300 yards for the third playoff game in a row and the Hahnville running back is less than 100 away from 1,000 in the postseason. Oh, and by the way, Williams is going to the Class 5A semifinals along with all... Keep Reading

THIBODAUX - A philosophy Tim Rebowe brought to Nicholls three years ago was put to the test last Sunday as the Colonels waited to see if they would be in the 24-team field in the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs. “We always had the mentality that the glass was half full and that’s how we were going to operate,” Rebowe said. Being nationally ranked and sporting an 8-2 record entering the regular-season... Keep Reading

No matter how many classes, divisions or playoff brackets the Louisiana High School Athletic Association may come up with, you generally can pencil in a Lewis Cook team into the semifinals. In 33 years as a prep head coach, Cook’s teams have made 31 playoff appearances. When his Notre Dame of Crowley team hosts Riverside Academy on Friday, it will mark the 17th time one of his clubs has reached the semifinals. “He&rsquo... Keep Reading

West St. John and Jonesboro-Hodge are no strangers when it comes to meeting in the Class 1A playoffs. Over the years, it always seemed that West St. John was the one that had to make the long road trip but for Friday night’s quarterfinal matchup in Edgard, it will be the Tigers who will be looking to their roadmap app in making the journey to south Louisiana. “It’s fortunate we...
