This time, St. Amant’s K.J. Franklin didn’t drop the ball. A week after Franklin fumbled in double-overtime to hand the Gators a loss to Lutcher, he bounced back in a big way against St. James Parish’s other high school by rushing for more than 200 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-21 win over the St. James Wildcats on Friday night at The Pit in St. Amant. Nick Saltaformaggio will not forget his first game back on the sidelines after serving a four-game suspension – for all the wrong reasons. Hahnville trailed only 7-0 at halftime but several early mistakes to open the second half snowballed into a 41-0 loss to Terrebonne in District 7-5A play Friday night in Thibodaux. The game, originally schedule to be played in Houma, was moved to Thibodaux High because of poor field conditions at Tom... Keep Reading

Another big night from Kylan Duhe allowed the West St. John Rams to bring home a victory from their road trip to face White Castle.  Duhe rushed for 128 yards rushing and three touchdowns in the Rams’ 48-14 win. “He’s hungry, and we are going to feed him,” said Rams coach Brandon Walters. “As long as he stays healthy, we are going to give him the ball.”  ... A shut-down defense and three Rondell Mealey touchdowns propelled Lutcher to a 34-6 road win at Dutchtown on Friday night. Lutcher’s defense didn’t allow a score and held Dutchtown to less than 200 yards of total offense. “I think it was the most complete game our defense has played all year,” Lutcher coach Dwain Jenkins said. “We really did a great job of tackling and being able to keep... A rainy start and a dominant East Ascension defense shut down St. Charles Catholic as the Comets fell below .500 on the season with a 21-2 loss to the visiting Spartans on Friday night in Laplace. The third-ranked team in Class 5A, with a defense led by Louisiana Tech commit Deshon Hall, prevented the Comets offense from doing much offensively all night.  The Comets (2-3) averaged just 2.6 yards per play all game and only converted... When a defensive stop by Thibodaux to open the second half turned into a 35-yard touchdown for Destrehan, it signified the type of game it had become for the Tigers. Trailing 28-10 at halftime, if the Tigers had any chance to stay in the game, they needed a defensive stop. The Tigers appeared to do so, forcing a Destrehan punt on a fourth-and-13 from the Thibodaux 40. A running into the kicker penalty on Thibodaux caused... Keep Reading

East St. John managed to cling to a 6-0 lead Thursday night in its District 7-5A contest against H.L. Bourgeois for most of the game – until the final 12 seconds. A 42-yard run by HLB running back D’Keyvion Sanders down to the East St. John 2-yard line set up a touchdown run by Trevonte Walker to tie the game with 12 seconds remain. Rodney Bouvier’s conversion gave the Braves a ... Keep Reading

“I thought the Hahnville-Destrehan game played out the way we thought,” Hahnville coach Nick Saltaformaggio said. “It’s just so hard for us to score. We go on a nine-minute, 16-play drive to score to take the lead and Destrehan comes right back and scores in four plays. “We were spent. You could look at the film and see fatigue setting in.” What Saltaformaggio saw on film last Saturday... Keep Reading

Facing Destrehan, the seven-ranked team in Class 5A, and its imposing array of offensive talent at the skilled positions can be a taunting task for any opponent. The chore was made even more difficult for the visiting Thibodaux Tigers on Friday night, who will be without five players – including several starters – who have been suspended for the Destrehan game after being involved in a fight in THS’ 30-6 win last week over... The St. James Wildcats got past the rivalry trio of West St. John, Lutcher and E.D. White in good shape with a win over visiting Wossman last week to run their record to 3-1 on the season. Still, there were some concerns early in a battle of Wildcats. “They take the opening kickoff back for a touchdown and I’m on the sideline, ‘Oh, Lord, here we go.’ I&rsquo... Keep Reading
