The Lutcher Bulldogs were able to take out a season’s worth of frustration with a 41-0 District 6-4A win over St. Michael the Archangel on Friday night at Woodlawn in Baton Rouge.

“We believe we are better than a 2-5 team. Our schedule, I don’t think many people would trade with us to play the people we played early this season. We just have to find some confidence, and hopefully, that’s what tonight does. It gives us something good to feel about,” Lutcher coach Dwain Jenkins said.

The big play was back in the Bulldogs’ arsenal on Friday night.

“We still don’t think we executed at a high level. The thing we talked about was making explosive plays and that was something we were able to do, making the extra effort at the skilled positions on the perimeter down the field to try and spring some of those big plays,” Jenkins said.

The result left both team 2-5 overall while Lutcher improved to 1-1 in district with St. Michael’s falling to 0-2.

St. Michael the ball on its opening possession of the game but came away with no points due to a fumble.

Lutcher countered with a 12-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Kolby Bourgeois to Gregory Clayton to give the Bulldogs the early lead.

One of Lutcher’s big plays – a 50-yard run by Daevon Adams – gave the Bulldogs a two-touchdown lead after one quarter.

A touchdown run by Adams to open the second quarter and a 73-yard punt return by Clayton late in the period gave Lutcher a 27-0 halftime lead.

A 54-yard toss from Bourgeois to Rondell Mealey to open the second half set up a 1-yard Adams run to give the Bulldogs a 34-0 lead.

The final score of the game came with 25 seconds remaining in the third quarter on a 25-yard touchdown pass from Bourgeois to Clayton. Bourgeois finished 10 of 13 passing for 170 yards.

Warriors quarterback Kade Stuart was 9 of 15 passing for 106 yards.

After early struggles, the goal of the Bulldogs, Jenkins said, is to go 1-0 in each of the final four games of the regular season.

“That’s kind of the thing we will pride ourselves on going down the stretch is just find a way to go 1-0. We can’t change anything that’s happened in the past. To worry about the future, all we can do is focus on the now and go 1-0 each week,” the Lutcher coach said.
