The one-two punch of running backs John Emery and Kyle Edwards delivered an early knockout blow to H.L. Bourgeois in Destrehan’s 47-0 domination of the visiting Braves in District 7-5A action Friday night.
Emery and Edwards each had a pair of rushing touchdowns in the opening half to lead the Wildcats (7-1 overall, 5-0 in district).
The running back duo each had touchdown runs in the first quarter to stake Destrehan to a 14-0 lead.
A 39-yard touchdown pass from quarterback J.R. Blood to Carl Lewis early in the second quarter extended the Wildcats’ lead to 21-0.
After a 16-yard Emery scoring run increased the Destrehan advantage to 27-0, Edwards scampered 26 yards for a touchdown to give the Wildcats a 34-0 lead at the break to put the game away.
The Wildcats amassed 412 yards of offense, including 278 rushing and 134 passing.
Destrehan’s defense limited the Braves to 25 total yards, including minus-3 rushing.
The loss dropped H.L. Bourgeois to 2-6 overall and 1-3 in district play.
