St. Charles Catholic pushed it’s record above .500 while moving to 2-0 in District 10-3A play with a 21-6 road win Friday night at Donaldsonville.

Defense was once again a key factor for the Comets, as allowed less than 200 yards of total offense and only nine Tiger first downs. They also forced two turnovers, including an interception and a forced fumble.

The rushing game also played a major role in the victory.

Of the 289 total yards produced by the St. Charles offense, 268 of them came on the ground with major contributions by Keenan Gauff and Phillip Tran.

Each ran the ball 12 times, with Gauff rushing for 103 yards and a score, while Tram added 102 yards on the ground.

St. Charles (4-3 overall) struck first when Joe Chiarella punched in an 8-yard touchdown run for an early 7-0 Comet lead.

The Comets were able to double up the score in the second quarter when Gauff broke off a 65-yard run that ended in the end zone.

Donaldsonville (3-4 overall, 0-2 in district) cut into the deficit in half just before halftime on a 29-yard touchdown pass from Joshua Collier to Tyrese Ester. A failed two-point conversion allowed St. Charles to maintain a 14-6 edge.

Collier was the most productive player for the Tiger offense in the game, completing 7 of his 21 pass attempts for 104 yards and a score.

Despite only completing 2 of 8 passing attempts on the night, the second Justin Dumas completion proved to be of great importance as it secured the only score of the second half.

Dumas found tight end Logan Forsythe for a 12-yard score in the fourth quarter that sealed a
21-6 victory for the Comets.
