Riverside Academy was unable to stop the run for the second week in a row, allowing Barbe to amass 369 yards on the ground in the Rebels’ 42-0 loss Friday night in Lake Charles.

Zene Chretien paced the Buccaneers’ ground game with 130 yards rushing on 12 carries and three touchdowns. Dylan Lewis added 113 yards on 11 attempts with one touchdown.

“We just got to keep getting better and moving forward. We just have to keep going back to the drawing board,” Riverside coach Kevin Dizer said.

Barbe scored on its opening possession on an 8-yard run by Chretien to take a quick 7-0 lead.

Riverside drove on its opening possession but the drive eventually stalled and forced a punt, pinning the Buccaneers at their own 11-yard line.

The Rebels intercepted a Barbe pass at the Riverside 40-yard line but RA was unable to take advantage of the turnover to trail 7-0 after one quarter.

A 7-yard touchdown run by Chretien early the second quarter extended the Buccaneers’ lead to 14-0.

“We wanted to run the football and keep the game short. If we could have gotten one of those (possessions) into the end zone, you have a ball game going into the locker room,” Dizer said.

Riverside’s deficit remained at two scores until a 4-yard run by Buccaneers quarterback Luke Richard with less than a minute remaining made it 20-0 at halftime. Richard finished with 18 yards rushing while hitting on 10 of 14 passes for 136 yards.

A 29-yard field goal extended Barbe’s lead to 23-0 early in the second half.

Chretien scored his third touchdown of the game on a 10-yard run to make it 30-0.

After a 14-0 run by Lewis made it 36-0, Barbe closed out the scoring on a 14-yard Devin Bates run for the 42-0 final.

Barbe finished with 505 yards of total offense.
