Before taking the mound in a ket District 7-5A matchup at H.l. Bourgeois Destrehan pitcher Landon Marceaux admitted he was suffering from a headache.
By the time the game was over, it was the Braves hitters who who were left scratching their heads.
Marceaux pitched his first no-hitter of the season, the third of his career as Destrehan edged H.L.Bourgeois 1-0.
"It was just hard work," said Marceaux. "You're not really thinking about (the no-hitter) throughout the game but it's a good feeling and a much needed win."
Marceaux who is a projected high Major League Baseball draft pick and LSU commitment, struck out 11 and was one pitch away from a perfect game before hitting a hitter on a 3-2 pitch before clsoing out the no-hitter on a ground out.
"Landon was really good today, really sharp," said Destrehan coach Chris Mire. "He really commanded his fastball. We threw a lot more fastballs today than we normally do. He did a real good job of keeping his pitch count down. They tried to bunt a little bunt, tried to break his rhythm but he was able to work through that. (Landon) was really sharp, really efficient and exactly what we needed today."
The Wildcats gave Marceaux the lone run required in the top of the 7th when T.J. Thomas laced a two-out RBI single to right field to score Dustin Jolliff from third base which proved to be the game-winning run.
"Their pitcher threw a lot of off-speed (pitches) throughout the game and I took first pitch fastball so I knew he was coming back with off-speed," said Thomas. "I worked my approach and used the other side of the field and drove him in. Felt real good to being the one to get the run in and coming up clutch."
The win improves Marceaux's record to 4-0 on the season to go along with 51 strikeouts and 4 walks in 34.2 innings pitched.
Destrehan improves to 16-9 overall and 6-2 in District 7-5A has now won 14 of their last 16 games.
