Hahnville's Pooka Williams receives the Louisiana Farm Bureau/LSWA Mr. Football trophy from Hahnville alum and St. Charles Farm Bureau's Will Sirmon.

Like his mind-blowing five-week run in the post season, Hahnville senior running back Anthony "Pooka" Williams' dizzying post-season awards tour ended in spectacular fashion Friday in Baton Rouge when he received the Louisiana Farm Bureau/LSWA Mr. Football trophy.

"It's a big accomplishment. I came out my senior year and accomplished a goal that I wanted to," said Williams. "It's a blessing, a lot of blessings. I prayed and I kept praying."

Williams who has already been named the Riverparishfootball.com Offensive Player of the Year, 5A Offensive MVP, District 7-5A MVP, set a new single-season state rushing record with 3,128 yards and also accounted for 40 touchdowns.

The award was presented by Will Sirmon of St. Charles/St. John Parish Farm Bureau. Not only does Sirmon represent Williams' home parish, but he's also a Hahnville alum.

"I'm proud of the fact that he is from the River Parishes and proud of the fact that he seems to be proud that he's from the River Parishes," said Sirmon. "As a Hahnville alumni myself it was a proud moment for everybody; coaches, teachers, past, present, and future. I was just floored by his performance against Acadiana. When people like Daruis Reynaud Hahnville State Champion (2003), played in the pros (five years in the NFL), says (Pooka) is the best running back that he's ever seen, I can understand why people have that opinion."

Although Williams signed his National Letter of Intent to Kansas during the early signing period in December, he still went through National Signing Day ceremonies on Wednesday with his teammates.

"It felt way better because I didn't feel like I was by myself," said Williams. "I knew my other teammates were going to college and I'm happy for them too as well as they're happy for me."

Williams becomes the first player from St. Charles Parish to win the award and joins Ryan Perrilloux (East St. John QB 2004) and Gavin Webster (Lutcher QB 2009) as the third winner from River Parish Football. Williams led Hahnville to a 12-3 overall record and to their first trip the 5A State Finals in 14 years where they fell to Zachary 34-14.

"I'm really glad that (Louisiana Farm Bureau) continues to step to the plate to be an important player in our community to back our local kids in the things that they do the sports and other activities that keep them out of trouble and help them be successful when they grow up," said Sirmon.
