Riverside Academy’s stay atop the Class 2A rankings proved to be a very short one. The Rebels’ normally-potent offense was held to 148 total yards and only one touchdown in a 12-6 District 8-2A loss Friday at South Plaquemines. Riverside Academy’s thrilling 35-28 victory last week over Newman vaulted the Rebels to No. 1 in the Class 2A poll. It also came with a high cost. The Rebels (6-1 overall, 4-0 in District 8-2A) lost Deuce Wallace with a broken foot. Wallace suffers fractured leg; may be out six weeks to three months

Riverside's 35-28 win over Newman came at a cost. Quarterback Deuce Wallace suffered a fractured left leg after being tackled midway in the second quarter.  The injury was confirmed by Riverside athletic director and Wallace's uncle,Timmy Byrd, who said the injury will keep Wallace out of action anywhere from six weeks to three months.  Rebels coach Bill Stubbs said people should not be surprised to see the sophomore quarterback return... It was quite fortunate the game between top-ranked Newman and No. 2 Riverside Academy was shown on television Even for the fans in attendance, they likely will need to look at the recording of the game broadcast by Fox New Orleans in order to believe their own eyes.
