When Riverside Academy hosts John Ehret in the 2016 season opener, the Rebels face a Patriots team that handed the RA its only loss of the season. Despite the fashion in which Riverside lost – falling behind early only to gain the lead and then get nipped 29-28 – there is no ‘revenge’ factor in the Rebels’ mindset. “The last thing we do is look back at last year,” Riverside coach... The Rebels were down to their third quarterback to open the season a year ago because of injuries to projected starter Jordan Loving and backup Jared Butler. Star receiver Herb McGee opened the year at quarterback before Butler eventually returned. Loving, meanwhile, missed the entire regular season and didn’t return until the Rebels reached the Division III state championship game. ... Keep Reading

Big plays hurt East St. John in its scrimmage Thursday against Edna Karr at Joe Keller Stadium. In the closing 20-minute running-time quarter, the Wildcats allowed two long touchdown passes. Earlier in the controlled portion of scrimmage, East St. John’s defense was two plays away from getting off the field when it allowed its first long touchdown pass of the night. “We have to minimize big plays and make them drive and...
