Survive and advance.
It's the motto of any team in the post-season and for 5A No. 2 seed Destrehan, a 22-0 win over No. 31 Hammond they'll be the ones advancing.
A wet, windy, cold night led to sloppy execution. That was on display late in the first quarter when Hammond botched a snap during a punt attempt with the ball being kicked and eventually slapped out of the end zone for a safety giving Destrehan the only score of the first quarter.
Destrehan free safety Champ Craven, who earlier had a fumble recovery, set up the next score with an interception in Hammond territory.
Following a 13-yard run, John Emery scored on a 1-yard run giving the Wildcats a 8-0 lead.
Kyle Edwards added touchdown runs of 4-yards in the second quarter and a game sealing 30-yard scoring jaunt late in the fourth quarter.
Destrehan improves to 10-1 and will be on the road next week facing Landry-Walker who defeated Barbe 30-12.
