In front of his teammates, coaches, and father, John Emery became the first player at Destrehan to receive an official jersey presentation to play in the Under Armour All-America Game.
“It means a lot, since my sophomore year I've wanted to play in this game,” said Emery. “It's truly a blessing, its been a goal I wanted to achieve. Just playing in this game January 3rd it's going to be big for me, goosebumps, my hairs on my arm are going to be rising.”
On the season Emery has rushed for 980 yards on 112 carries, averaging 8.8 yards per carry, with 11 touchdowns.
Destrehan coach Stephen Robicheaux made the jersey presentation.
“John it's an honor to present this jersey to you today, but you know it's a part of all of these guys that are sitting in this room and it's a testament to their hard work and support, and we're real excited,” said Robicheaux.
“It's a team thing,” said Emery. “There's no better feeling than having the guys you want to support you there.”
A Georgia commitment, Emery was in attendance this party Saturday when LSU upset then No.2 ranked Georgia 36-16.
“Every LSU game I go to is always a great vibe. That was probably the craziest atmosphere I ever experienced. Anything could happen until I sign but as far as right now I'm with the Georgia Bulldogs that's who I'm committed to.”
Destrehan is 6-1 on the season and is currently ranked 5th in the latest 5A statewide poll by the LSWA. The Wildcats close out the regular season with a home game with H.L. Bourgeois (2-5), at Jesuit (4-3), and home with Terrebonne (7-0).
