Lutcher’s quest to host a first-round game in the opening round of the Class 4A playoffs took a hit with a 35-19 home loss to Plaquemine in a District 6-4A showdown in the 2018 regular-season finale Friday night.
The Bulldogs, who entered the game holding the No. 14 seed in the unofficial Class 4A power rankings, finished the regular season 6-4 overall and 3-2 in district play. A win by Lutcher would have helped to solidify the Bulldogs’ chances of being at home next Friday while also earning LHS a three-way share of the league title.
Plaquemine improved to 8-2 overall and 5-0 in district play.
Lutcher rallied to within 21-19 in the third quarter but could get no closer as the Green Devils pulled away for the win.
The Green Devils ran less than 40 plays with their time-consuming Wing-T offense. Plaquemine rushed for slightly less than 250 yards with four touchdowns.
Plaquemine running back Melvin McClay paced the attack with 87 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
Lutcher quarterback Kolby Bourgeois rushed for one touchdown and passed for another.
