For the past seven years we have been blessed with a stable of talented quarterbacks in River Parish Football. Ranking the Top 5, like the other positions is no easy task. Injuries, transfers, etc. have made this list even more of a challenge. With that said, here is my list of the Top 5 quarterbacks from the Riverparishfootball-dot-com era which is 2010-present. All five are currently playing Division I college football:
1. Lowell Narcisse (St James Class of 2017)
The hard-throwing dual threat lefty burst onto the scene as a freshman at St. James. In both his freshman and sophomore seasons he led the Wildcats (who had not won a game since he was in the 6th grade) to back-to-back trips to the state quarterfinals. Based on those two seasons alone made him the highest recruited quarterback in the history of RPF-dot-com.
A torn ACL in the spring game wiped out his junior season. He unexpectedly returned in time for the playoffs leading the Wildcats to the 3A State Championship game.
All told, Narcisse accounted for 99 touchdowns in 30 games and would have put up some of the greatest numbers in Louisiana prep history had it not been for a pair of ACL injuries.
Narcisse was an early enrollee at LSU and went through a successful spring with the Tigers.
2. Jontre Kirklin (Lutcher Class of 2017)
Back-to-back state championships. That says all you need to know about both Jontre Kirklin's talent and leadership abilities. The numbers back that up even more.
Kirklin accounted for 147 touchdowns, passed for over 7,000 yards, and rushed for over 3,000 yards during his time as the Bulldogs quarterback.
The dual-threat quarterback will be making the switch to defensive back at LSU, but his legacy is in tact as one of the most productive quarterbacks in the history of River Parish Football.
3. Donovan Isom (Destrehan Class of 2014)
One of the most efficient passers we have covered at RPF-dot-com, Donovan Isom completed just under 80% of his passes at Destrehan.
His senior season, the 6-5 Isom threw for 33 touchdowns against three interceptions. Isom also rushed for over 500 yards and 9 touchdowns, leading Destrehan to the 5A State Semifinals. For his efforts, Isom was named the 2013 RPF-dot-com Offensive Player-of-the-Year.
Isom is now entering his third year at Southeastern after transferring from Utah.
4. Deuce Wallace (Riverside 2012-13)
Like Narcisse, River Parish Football fans never will know just how good Duece Wallace could have been. But safe to say, like Narcisse, even a limited body of work was good enough to land the former Riverside quarterback on the Top 5 list.
Wallace threw for over 4,500 yards and 33 touchdowns in a season-and-a-half at Riverside. A broken foot against Newman shortened his sophomore season, then Wallace moved back to his home state of Tennessee where he threw for over 6,000 yards and 62 touchdowns in two seasons as the starting quarterback at Sevier County
Wallace red-shirted last season at Vanderbilt, and is primed to be the Commodores backup quarterback this year as a redshirt freshman.
5. Austin Howard (West St. John Class of 2014)
From the River Parish Jamboree his freshman season when he lobbed a touchdown pass to the corner of the end zone to a tightly covered Jairus Moll, West St. John quarterback Austin Howard had a knack for big plays.
Howard led the Rams to the 1A State Championship his sophomore season where West St. John was defeated by Ouachita Christian 23-7.
During both his junior and senior seasons, Howard finished second in RPF passing stats, and in 2012 finished the regular season with 23 touchdown passes and 3 interceptions.
Howard is preparing for his senior season at Southern where he will be a four-year starter for the Jaguars.
