Gage Larvadain continues to put up video game-type numbers and the Riverside Academy Rebels continue to win.
Larvadain accounted for six touchdowns and the Rebels moved to 4-0 on the season with a 41-26 win over Southern Lab on Friday night in Reserve.
The multi-dimensional Larvadain had four rushing touchdowns and two touchdown catches.
The win total for Riverside represents one more than the Rebels had for all of the 2019 season.
“It’s been good. We are just staying true to who we are and continuing to get better. When I took the job, I had a plan. We stuck to that. The kids bought into it and it’s paying off,” Riverside coach Kevin Dizer said.
Southern Lab (1-3) took a 7-0 lead less than a minute into the game on a 60-yard touchdown pass by quarterback Angel Izzard.
Larvadain evened things up with at the 10-minute mark of the first quarter on a 40-yard run.
A 1-yard run by Larvadain on the initial play of the second quarter gave the Rebels their first lead of the game at 14-7.
Riverside stretched its advantage to 21-7 on a 55-yard pass from Luke Hymel to Larvadain with 10 minutes remaining in the second quarter.
Southern Lab scored with less than three minutes remaining in the second quarter to make it 21-13 before a 42-yard run by Larvadain with 1:30 left gave the Rebels a 28-13 halftime lead.
Southern Lab closed to within 28-20 with a third quarter touchdown the Kittens again made it a one-possession game.
“Southern Lab has a good team. We knew that coming in. They lost to two 5A schools in Scotlandville and Central. They played really hard and gave us a run for our money. We played a complete game and we finished it off,” Dizer said.
Larvadain scored his fifth touchdown on a 7-yard run for a 35-20 Riverside lead.
Facing fourth-and-7 from the Southern Lab 12-yard line, Hymel tossed a 16-yard touchdown pass to Larvadain in the right corner of the end zone. Larvadain went over two Southern Lab defenders to make the catch for a 41-20 Rebels lead.
Southern Lab answered six plays later on a 55-yard touchdown run by running back Lutrell Pruitt with 1:57 left in the game for the 41-26 final.
