On the second play of the game, Riverside Academy quarterback Gage Larvadain hit Jaylen Watkins on a touchdown toss and the game quickly turned into a rout as the Rebels defeated winless Fisher 42-13 in District 9-2A action Friday night in Lafitte.
“Going into the game, I knew Fisher was a team we should beat and I wanted us to be as clean as possible and I wanted to be able to get the young guys in as soon as possible. We pretty much ruled from the opening kick,” Riverside coach Kevin Dizer said.
The result improve Riverside to 2-5 overall and 2-1 in district. Fisher fell to 0-8 overall and 0-2 in district play.
Along with his touchdown toss to Watkins, Larvadain connected on scoring tosses to Kash Foley, Isaiah Bigham and Tairyn Lockhart in the first quarter.
“Our passing game was very clean. Gage was locked in and he was on all night. In warmups, he was real focused,” Dizer said.
Riverside’s defense also got into the scoring act in the first quarter when Andre Murphy returned an interception for a touchdown as the Rebels built a 35-0 lead after one quarter.
After the first quarter, Riverside played reserves for the remainder of the game.
“I have no interest in bashing anybody. We’ve been on the opposite end of that this year. As soon as a got a good enough lead, we started getting those young guys in there in the second quarter and we were finally able to give those guys some Friday night reps,” Dizer said.
