Riverside Academy bounced back from last week’s loss to Country Day in resounding fashion with a 56-8 victory over visiting North Central in non-district action Friday night to close out the regular season.
“It’s always good getting a win going into the playoffs. It was good to get that Country Day game behind us after getting on the field tonight. You always want to go into the playoffs coming off a win and healthy and we were able to do that,” Riverside coach Kevin Dizer said.
The Rebels moved to 3-6 on the season while North Central fell to 1-9.
Riverside quarterback Gage Larvadain accounted for five touchdowns, including four passing.
An 11-yard run by Larvadain gave Riverside a quick 7-0 lead.
Larvadain tossed touchdown passes for 8 yards to Isaiah Bigham and 17 yards to Kash Foley to make it 21-0.
Following a 34-yard touchdown run by Louis Cheneau, Larvadain hooked up with Jaylen Watkins on a 20-yard scoring toss to give the Rebels a 35-0 lead after one quarter.
Watkins’ younger brother, Ahmonte, returned an interception for a touchdown for the first score of the second quarter.
Larvadain connected with Tairyn Lockhart on a touchdown pass to give Riverside a 49-0 lead at halftime.
“We started with a running clock in the second quarter and we started rotating in a lot of the young guys,” Dizer said.
Each team scored once in the second half.
“We knew they weren’t a very good team coming in. It was very similar to the approach we had to take during the Fisher week, just taking care of business and work on what you can and get out healthy,” said Dizer, referring to Riverside’s 42-13 Week 8 win over Fisher.
