St. Charles Catholic built a 28-0 lead in the first quarter on its way to a 35-0 win over visiting Cohen to close out the regular season with a 9-1 mark while capturing the District 11-2A title.
The Comets entered the game with the No. 3 power ranking among Division III schools, with the top five expected to receive opening-round byes. The brackets are scheduled to be announced on Sunday.
After St. Charles built its 28-0 lead, the Comets began playing reserves in the second quarter and a running clock was used the entire second half.
Cohen (1-8 overall, 0-3 in district) was forced to punt on the game’s opening possession. The attempt was blocked, with Mason Narcisse scooping up the ball and scoring from 5 yards out for a quick 7-0 St. Charles advantage.
A 45-yard run by Phillip Tran made it 14-0 with 7:05 remaining in the first quarter.
Logan Forsythe scored on a 13-yard run with 3:02 showing in the opening quarter as St. Charles extended its lead to 28-0.
Once again, the St. Charles defense directly contributed to a score on Sammy Joyce’s 31-yard interception return with 30 seconds left in the opening quarter for the Comets’ 28-0 lead after one period.
The game’s final score came on a 1-yard run by Kaiden Jones to cap a six-minute drive to make the score 35-0 at the 5:45 mark of the second quarter.
Because of an average starting position of the Cohen 44-yard line, the Comets finished with 182 total yards – all on the ground.
The Green Hornets managed to cross midfield only once in the game and finished with minus-15 yards of total offense.
