D’Wayne Winfield accounted for scores in three different ways and Ra’suan Storks rushed for three touchdowns in Lutcher’s 49-7 win at Patterson in District 9-3A action Friday night.
Winfield’s first score came on a 23-yard pass from quarterback Mekhi Patterson to cap an 80-yard drive to open the game.
After Lutcher (5-5 overall, 3-2 in district) forced a Patterson punt, the Bulldogs scored on a 9-yard touchdown run by Storks to pull away early from the Lumberjacks (2-8 overall, 0-5 in district).
“You want to try and build some momentum and build on the week before. We played a good second half against Donaldsonville to get that win and we knew Patterson was in a position that they didn’t really have a chance to make the playoffs so you just wanted to come out and have a quick start and not give them anything to get excited about in the last game of the season,” Lutcher coach Dwain Jenkins said.
Winfield’s other scores came on 7-yard run and a 13-yard touchdown pass to Maraii Green.
“The growth of D’Wayne Winfield all season long has been huge for us. We needed someone to kind of develop into another threat to Rashon Williams at receiver. D’Wayne has kind of become that No. 2 receiver for us, but his ability to still be able to line up at quarterback and give us another tough runner has paid dividends for us in some pretty big spots,” said Jenkins.
A 4-yard by Storks gave Lutcher a 21-0 lead after one quarter.
Storks finished with 116 yards rushing on 10 carries.
“Ra’suan’s had a solid season all the way around. He’s rushed for 100 yards or more in eight of our ten games. He’s been able to do it in some games in limited carries,” said Jenkins.
After Allen Langston scored on a 10-yard run for Patterson, Storks scored his final touchdown of the game on a 1-yard run to give Lutcher a 28-7 halftime lead.
Winfield had a hand in both of Lutcher’s touchdowns in the third quarter with his 7-yard run and his 13-yard touchdown toss to Green.
Lutcher rounded out the scoring on a Tyrek Brown 13-yard run to account for the 49-7 final.
Patterson finished 7 of 10 passing for 147 yards. Rashod Williams had three catches for 106 yards.
Winfield ended with 64 yards rushing on five carries. He also had three receptions for 45 yards and his one pass attempt went for a touchdown.
